Donna’s first introduction to Metta Perspective was through Dr. Dawn’s sister in December 2023. She says it was “perfect timing because my neuropathy was getting worse, affecting sleep and physical activity.” . At the time, the neuropathy meant she had “a whole list of meds” she was taking. She remembers thinking, “I can’t do this for the rest of my life.”
She spoke with her neurologist about trying acupuncture and received his enthusiastic support, along with a green light from her primary care physician. “I was impressed with everyone here and Dr. Dawn’s knowledge,” she says, reflecting on her first visits. Since then, she’s been able to get off many of the medications she was previously taking.
When I asked what aspects of the clinic stood out most to her, she didn’t hesitate: “First, of course, is the acupuncture.” She appreciates how treatments are personalized each session, saying she can “come in with a specific thing and Dr. Dawn will change the modality for the day. Meet you where you are.”
She also loves the range of therapies available at Metta Perspective. “There are so many different kinds of treatments,” she says. “I wouldn’t even know what to ask for since there are therapies here that I wasn’t familiar with before.”
Another major plus: herbs. The doctor is a certified herbalist and has herbs in office, she appreciates the ease and efficacy of this resource.
Outside of the clinic, Donna leads a full, vibrant life. “My job as a retired person is to keep myself healthy,” she says. She’s taken over 750 classes at her Pilates studio under an unlimited membership and has completed 15 half marathons—walking! On top of that, Donna is an avid traveler and has visited 34 countries. She shares her home with her 100lb black goldendoodle, Jax, who she says “gives her love all the time.”
When I asked what advice she would give to someone considering acupuncture for the first time, she said simply: “Don’t be afraid.” She explains that the needles don’t hurt—“the worst pain is just an ache.” And more importantly, “acupuncture gets directly to the source. It works for a lot of people, and it might work for you.”
One of the biggest benefits for Donna? Reducing reliance on medication, which she has had great success in. “Get yourself off as many as possible,” she says. “There are always side effects.”
“Everything is here already,” she adds. “The office exceeded my expectations.” She finds the acupuncture “restful and energizing at the same time.” And she gives a heartfelt shoutout to the staff, who are “all welcoming, positive, warm, and sincere.”
The clinic, she says, is not “stiff and formal—it’s a haven.”
